Professor James M. Goldgeier, Professor
of Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington
University and Justin Vaisse, Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy, Center on
the United States and Europe, Brookings Institution in Washington DC,
discuss the role of foreign policy on the US elections and their effect
onTransatlantic Relations.

Speakers:
Justin Vaisse is Senior Fellow, Foreign Policy, Center
on the United States and
Europe, Brookings Institution in Washington
DC. A
former advisor for the Policy Planning Staff of the French Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, Justin Vaisse focuses on American foreign policy and transatlantic
relations. He is also an expert on Islam in France. He graduated from the Institut
d’ Etudes Politiques de Paris in 1998 (Section: Service Public) and was an adjunct
professor at Sciences-Po in Paris
from 2003 to 2007, and is currently an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins
School of Advanced International Studies. Vaisse is currently working on a
major book on the history of neoconservatism in America. He is the author or
co-author of several books on the United States, especially on
American foreign policy, including the award-winning L'empire du milieu. Les Etats-Unis et le monde depuis la fin de la guerre froide (with Pierre Melandri - Paris: 2001) and Washington et le monde. Dilemmes d'une
superpuissance (with
Pierre Hassner - Paris:
2003).
Dr. James M. Goldgeier is Professor of
Political Science and International Affairs at George Washington
University and a senior
fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations. At GWU, Professor Goldgeier teaches
undergraduate and graduate courses in U.S. foreign policy and theories of
international relations. He is the author of Leadership Style and Soviet
Foreign Policy (John Hopkins, 1994), which received the Edgar Furniss book
award in national and international security, and Not Whether But When: The
U.S. Decision to Enlarge NATO (Brookings, 1999). Dr. Goldgeier co-authored
(with Michael McFaul) Power and Purpose: U.S. Policy toward Russia after the
Cold War (Brookings, 2003), which received the 2004 Lepgold Prize for the
best book on international relations. His most recent book (co-authored with
Derek Chollet) is America Between the Wars: From 11/9 to 9/11, published in
June 2008 by Public Affairs.
